Mitt Romney’s Real Problem
The biggest problem Mitt Romney faces (“What Matters About Romney’s Religion”) is not that he is a Mormon. Romney is cursed by the fact that too many Americans think religious beliefs dictate certain political positions.
Liberals want religion to promote social justice. Conservatives think legislation can stop immorality. Voters expect a candidate’s religious beliefs to have specific implications on his or her policies. As a Christian, I simply do not see any heavenly endorsement for this position.
Mitt Romney’s best chance at winning the White House is to convince voters that he gets his personal strength and morality from his religion. The Bible nor the Book of Mormon contain model legislation to guide him any further in the political process.
