Deregulate Arlington Cabs
The recent news stories and letters to the editor about Envirocab have me quite confused. Arlington fancies itself an environmentally conscious community, yet the solution that would bring about the best result is being overlooked.
Arlington should deregulate the taxi industry. If we are truly concerned about the environment as we say we are, Envirocab will destroy its competition in a free market. How many environmental activists would choose a conventional cab when Envirocabs are in ample supply?
However, if Arlington is paying lip service to the environment while needlessly preserving government interference in the marketplace, we will get continued licensing and regulations that actually hurt the environment.
